Peninsula Crossing Trail and into Downtown Portland
This route serves as a good connector.  It allows you to get from the Marine Drive Bike Path along the Columbia River, into Downtown Portland.  The Peninsula Crossing Trail is a route that is mostly a dedicated bike path that runs from Marine Drive to near Willamette Blvd.  From that point you can follow Willamette Blvd to Greeley Ave, then continue along Interstate Ave to the Rose Quarter.  There you will find a ramp that takes you down to the east side of the Steel Bridge.

If you take the Eastbank Esplanade down to the Springwater Corridor Trail and head east, you can tie these routes together for a great ride of around 55 miles.  We have a "pdf" of that circular route here.  You can also check out the Springwater page for more info.

The best thing about this route for us is that it ties together other rides and allows us to make a nice big, long loop.  Marine Drive and Springwater are both major east-west routes.  By using this route you can connect those two on the west end.  Portions of this route are on streets, and not all the bike lanes are very wide.  However when the lanes are the narrowest, the speed limit is the lowest.  We take this route on a regular basis.
